Empowering

I never imagined that I would climb Mount Kilimanjaro. But, after training with the Wisdom Walkers, I found myself celebrating with my husband atop of Stella Point on a mountain aptly called the “Roof of Africa”. This 7-day trek made me realize how much stamina I really have and how much more I can accomplish in life.

Dr. Nneka Davis, Pediatric Oral Surgeon

I have been an athlete most of my life and when I started hiking with the Wisdom Walkers, I never knew that I would make history as one of the first African American women to summit Old Rag Mountain and Mount Kilimanjaro. You feel so accomplished standing at the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro and knowing that you have overcome the most rigorous physical ordeal in your life.

Pamela Bundy, Real Estate Developer

When he heard that we planned to climb the Inca Trail in Peru, our adult son doubted that we would ever finish an 13,800 foot trek up the Andes Mountain. But my husband, Jim, and I certainly showed him. This trek pushed me way out of my comfort zone. When you go through something as difficult as climbing 70,000 steps of the Inca trail in 4 days, everything else seems easy. I look at my life now and know I will never be the same. Anything is possible with perseverance.

Marlene Moss, Philanthropist, Actress

I wasn’t sure what to expect as a Wisdom Walkers Scholar when we flew to Alabama to the Legacy Museum. Experiencing the Museum and the Selma Jubilee allowed me to walk in the steps of civil rights legends. The experience was so powerful that it brought me to tears. I am inspired by their strength and resilience.

The Wisdom Walkers envision a future in which African Americans thrive in health, vitality and longevity. Through movement, adventure and education, we strive to reduce the prevalence of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and sickle cell among African Americans and to foster a culture of wellness and sustainability.

Our mission is to advance the treatment and research of diseases that disproportionately affect African Americans, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, sickle cell, and cancer.  We are working to close the health and wellness gap through education, outreach, training, fundraising, and creating inspirational adventures.

Your donations to the Wisdom Walkers support our work to promote health equity and disease prevention. Together, we will raise awareness and eliminate disparities in health care. Your contributions also help educate the next generation of leaders through the Wisdom Walkers Scholars program, in which young adults experience our heritage tours and walk away empowered and inspired. We believe that healthy living for life can become a reality for everyone.
